  Disconnect problems

"For what it's worth" department. Seems that every now and then I will be connected online, either browsing or doing email stuff, and I unexpectedly have a warning dialog box pop up on my screen telling me that "Remote Access has been disconnected". And now that I think about it, I have also had the same unexpected disconnect happen occasionally with the Netscape Navigator browser application that I use.

In the case of the online disconnect, my response is to simply find my "Connect" button and click on it (You can locate the Connect button by either: 1. drop Apple menu, select Remote Access Status, dialog box will appear... or... 2. go to Control Strip, click on Remote Access button, menu pops up).

The dial up and connection process will usually then put me back online. Most interesting, however, is the page I had on my screen at the time of the disconnect does not disappear. The page stays on my screen and when I get connected again I am able to continue my surfing exactly where I was at the time of cutoff.

In the case of the application disconnect, my response is to launch my Netscape application again. Meanwhile, my online meter keeps ticking away, indicating that I am still connected to the telephone line, even though my browser software is not active. So, by launching the Netscape browser application again I find I am back to normal.

My purpose in mentioning the above incidents is to assure fellow iMac users that we all have problems from time to time. If you can relate to what I have described here it means there is nothing wrong with your machine, nothing wrong with the way you are operating it, and nothing wrong with having an unexpected freeze, crash, or bomb... once in a while. We are working with electronic marvels and sometimes things happen that have no available explanation. If you understand and accept this you will operate your computer with maximum joy and minimal frustration.
